wut is agonist?
agonist (noun) ag·o·nist | a-gə-nist
1: one that is engaged in a struggle
We all struggle. We all have our own hard thing. We all agonize in our own ways.
There's a Buddhist saying that life is suffering. We all are on our own journeys, wrestling with our own hard thing. In a way, we are all agonists.
But it's not always about the send or the achievement. That's not to say achievements don't matter--it does. What we want to emphasize is the process. Months of no hangs. Internet rabbit holes on bee stinger therapy. Brutal training cycles with only micro-progress to show for it. Progress nonetheless. We want to celebrate the process. Celebrate the suffer.
Too often we compare ourselves to the pro climber who started with a youth team, or the one person who is already onsighting 14a in their second year of climbing. You are not them, and you are on your own journey. We love chasing grades. However, we fell in love with climbing for the problem-solving, community, and the connection with nature--not because of some arbitrary number. Let's remember that.
Agonist is for anyone who chose the weird, hard, obsessive version of something and would choose it again — the ones who endure, persist, and...
try harderer.
We are not a performance brand. We are here to show up for your struggle--and celebrate it!
This is our ethos. Remember: it's about the process. Celebrate the suffer. The rest will fall into place.
